(1) "Research on the application of circular economy solutions for agricultural and aquatic product chains linked with socio-economic development in Thanh Phu district, Ben Tre province." VNU-IDP collaborates with the Institute of Circular Economy Research, VNU-HCM University of Economics.
(2) "Assessment of environmental carrying capacity and proposal of sustainable tourism development solutions in Con Dao district, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province." VNU-IDP is collaborating with the Institute of Ecology, Southern Vietnam.

The core research team of the Institute for Development Policy, VNU-HCM, currently consists of 01 Associate Professor, 05 PhDs, 02 Masters, and 2 Researchers in various fields such as economics, international economics, labor economics, agricultural economics, economic law, international trade law, etc. The team has successfully led and participated in numerous scientific research projects, particularly research projects at central and local levels, including the following exemplary ones:
In 2003, the research team successfully led the "State-owned enterprise divestment in Vietnam from the ownership perspective" project. The project deeply analyzed and evaluated the achievements and limitations of divesting state-owned enterprises in Vietnam from the ownership perspective. Based on that, the project proposed directions and a system of solutions to improve the process of divesting state-owned enterprises in Vietnam.
In 2006, the research team successfully led the "Enhancing the value chain of coconut in Ben Tre province" project. The project thoroughly analyzed the operation process and value creation in the coconut value chain in Ben Tre province. It identified bottlenecks in the chain operation process and proposed solutions to upgrade the coconut value chain towards sustainable development and higher value creation.
In 2007, the research team participated in the "Labor Strikes in Ho Chi Minh City" project. The project analyzed the current situation and evaluated the leading causes of labor strikes in Ho Chi Minh City. Based on that, the project proposed a system of solutions to mitigate labor strikes in Ho Chi Minh City in the coming time.
In 2008, the research team led the project "The Relationship between economic growth and social justice in Ho Chi Minh City." The project analyzed the current situation of economic growth and social justice and the relationship between economic growth and social justice in Ho Chi Minh City. Based on that, the project proposed a system of solutions to address the relationship between economic growth and social justice effectively.
In 2008, the research team participated in the project "Building a Model of Agricultural Production Organization for Laotian Farmers in Paksong District, Champasak Province." The project evaluated the economic efficiency of the current agricultural production organization model in Paksong. Based on that, it built a pilot agricultural production organization model to enhance the efficiency of households' agricultural production activities, reduce dependence on external resources, and gradually become self-reliant in the production development process. The project also developed policy solutions to support the development of the proposed economic model.
In 2009, the research team participated in the "Scientific Arguments for the sustainable economic development of Binh Duong Province during Industrialization and Modernization" project. The project analyzed the current situation of sustainable economic development in Binh Duong province and evaluated the achievements and existing issues. Based on that, the project proposed goals, orientations, and solutions to promote sustainable economic development in Binh Duong province linked with industrialization and modernization.
In 2010, the research team led the project "Enhancing the Quality of Economic Growth in Ho Chi Minh City in International Integration." The project analyzed the current situation and evaluated the quality of economic growth in Ho Chi Minh City, highlighting the achievements, limitations, and causes. Based on that, the project proposed goals, orientations, and a system of solutions to enhance the quality of economic growth in Ho Chi Minh City in the context of international integration.
In 2011, the research team participated in the project "Economic Structure and Quality of Economic Growth in Vietnam." The project analyzed and evaluated the current economic structure, quality of economic growth, and the relationship between quality and economic structure in Vietnam. Based on that, the project presented viewpoints, orientations, and solutions to improve the economic structure and promote the quality of economic growth in Vietnam.
In 2012, the research team led the project "Enhancing the value of wood export products of enterprises in Binh Duong province." The project analyzed the factors that constitute the value attached to the value chain of wood export products for enterprises in Binh Duong province. Accordingly, the project proposed a system of solutions to enhance the value of wood export products of enterprises in Binh Duong province.
In 2013, the research team participated in the "Urban Government - Experimental Research in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang" project. The project analyzed and evaluated the construction and implementation of urban government in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, identifying achievements, difficulties, and causes. Based on that, the project proposed policy directions, solutions, and recommendations for effectively implementing the urban government model in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang City.
In 2014, the research team led the "Investment Attraction Strategy in Dak Nong Province until 2020" project. The project surveyed businesses and investors about the investment environment and analyzed and evaluated the current situation of investment attraction in Dak Nong province. Based on that, the project developed an investment attraction strategy in Dak Nong province until 2020 with specific action programs.
In 2016, the research team led the project "Development of support industries for textile and garment industry in Ho Chi Minh City." The project surveyed businesses in the textile and garment industry about the level of support industry's responsiveness to the textile and garment industry and evaluated the achievements, difficulties, and causes. Based on that, the project proposed a system of solutions and action programs to develop support industries for the textile and garment industry in Ho Chi Minh City.
In 2017, the research team participated in the project "Assessment of the Unique Economic Model in Vietnam and the Possibility of Applying the Charter City Model." The project studied the experiences of some countries in building Charter city models and evaluated the unique economic models in Vietnam. Based on that, the project presented scenarios and possibilities for applying the Charter City model in Vietnam.
In 2018, the research team led the project "Development of Private Economy to Promote Entrepreneurship in Ben Tre Province." The project surveyed businesses, business households, and related subjects involved in entrepreneurship activities in Ben Tre province and evaluated the achievements, difficulties, and causes. Based on that, the project proposed a system of solutions and action programs to develop the private economy, thereby continuing to promote entrepreneurship activities in-depth in Ben Tre province.
In 2019, the research team led the project "Development of the maritime economy in the Ca Mau Peninsula towards a breakthrough in special mechanisms." The project studied experiences in unique mechanisms for socio-economic development worldwide and in Vietnam and analyzed and evaluated the current situation of maritime economic development in the Ca Mau peninsula, identifying results, difficulties, and causes. Based on that, the project proposed breakthrough policy recommendations and unique mechanisms to develop the maritime economy in the Ca Mau peninsula.
In 2020, the research team led the "Development of Private Economy in Vietnam" project. The project analyzed and evaluated the current situation of private economic development in Vietnam from 1986 to 2020, identifying achievements, challenges, and causes. Based on that, the project proposed goals, policy directions, and a system of solutions to develop the private economy in Vietnam by 2030.
In 2020, the research team led the project "Training Program for Farm Managers to Develop the Agricultural Economy in the Mekong Delta". The project successfully trained over 200 farm owners and farmers in Ben Tre and Kien Giang provinces on farm management knowledge. The results of the program development and its implementation were reviewed, and a good rating was achieved.
In 2020, the research team led the project "Factors affecting Vietnam's wood export through an attractive trade model." The project conducted an in-depth analysis of the development of the wood export industry, quantified the impact of various factors on export turnover, and proposed solutions to promote the production and export of Vietnam's wood products.
In 2020, the research team led the project "Technical efficiency of shrimp farming households in Bac Lieu province." The project measured the technical efficiency and identified the determining factors of technical efficiency in shrimp production of households in Bac Lieu province using data envelopment analysis and Tobit regression methods to emphasize factors affecting the technical efficiency of shrimp production and propose practical solutions for shrimp farming households.
In 2023, as the Deputy Head, the team successfully collaborated with the Agricultural Planning and Design Institute under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to implement the "Dak Nong Province Planning Project for the 2021 - 2030 period and vision until 2050". The project results were successfully implemented and officially approved by the Prime Minister on December 31, 2023.
Moreover, in 2023, the research team led the project "Barriers to Accessing the Social Security System for migrant workers in Ho Chi Minh City." The project researched the barriers to migrant workers' accessing the social security system in Ho Chi Minh City to identify the supply, demand, institutional perception, and household registration obstacles that truly hinder migrant workers from accessing social security in Ho Chi Minh City. Consequently, the project proposed solutions to reduce the barriers to migrant workers' access to social security in Ho Chi Minh City.
