THE VIETNAM SYMPOSIUM ON LEADERSHIP
AND PUBLIC POLICY (VSLP_2024)
The Vietnam Symposium on Leadership and Public Policy (VSLP_2024) recently concluded, bringing together experts to discuss the theme of "Shaping Regional Development: Spatial Policies and International Practices from Urban and Public Management."
Held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the Academy of Politics, Region II, the symposium featured insightful presentations and discussions on various aspects of regional development. Assoc. Prof. Do Phu Tran Tinh, Director of the Institute for Developing Policies at VNU-HCMC, shared valuable insights from his research on regional integration mechanisms in several countries, highlighting their implications for Vietnam.
The study delved into the successful regional integration strategies of Germany, France, and China. Germany's strong legal foundation, France's decentralized governance, and China's bottom-up approach were highlighted as key factors contributing to their economic growth and development. Challenges and Opportunities for Vietnam: The study recognized the challenges faced by Vietnam in its regional integration efforts, particularly the lack of a strong legal and policy framework. However, it also emphasized the opportunities for Vietnam to learn from international best practices and strengthen its regional cooperation.
To achieve sustainable regional development, the study identified three crucial pillars: (1) The Robust Legal and Policy Framework: A clear and comprehensive legal framework is essential to guide and facilitate regional cooperation, (2) The Strong Organizational Structure: A well-defined organizational structure with clear roles and responsibilities is necessary to coordinate and implement regional initiatives, and (3) The Effective Coordination and Implementation Mechanisms: Effective coordination and implementation mechanisms are crucial to ensure that regional policies and strategies are effectively executed.
By addressing these key pillars and drawing on the experiences of other countries, Vietnam can enhance its regional integration framework and unlock its full potential for economic and social development.
